About Course

Description:

This short learning programme (SLP) on 'Planning school excursions and field trips" aims to equip students with knowledge of child safety and care policies during off-site activities and skills to plan safe off-site activities by:
  • providing guidance and information to school leadership and SGBs / Boards of Directors, Heads of department, in-service teachers, as well as pre-service teachers, to ensure understanding of legal compliance in terms of liability, vicarious liability, and child protection and safeguarding of excursions and field trips; and
  • providing practical guidelines and checklists/forms for those planning school trips to ensure standards of delivery and compliance that ease the decision-making and approval by parents and school leadership.

Admission Requirements:

Matric certifcate / NQF level 4 qualification.

Course Curriculum

  • The role and value of school excursions and field trips: This unit unpacks the educational role of school excursions and fieldtrips as well as the definition of child protection and safeguarding. •Legal compliance in the context of off-campus learning experiences: Unpacking national legislation and regulations pertaining to child safety and care.
  • Legal considerations of the school: Looking at the roles and responsibilities of the different stakeholders (School principal, SBG, district office) and the planning process.
  • Analysis of case study: Students are required to apply the knowledge gained.
